Southampton to Bournemouth Cycle Ride

Meeting: 9am, Ferry Terminal, Southampton (near Los Marinos) - Just inside the official main building. We are getting the first ferry that comes so be on time or be left behind!

The ferry is about £3.

Route:

Note, I haven't put any pub stops on it, becuase all the best pubs I know in the forest are much more North - Because we're aiming to get to the coast we've had to keep South of Brockenhurst for most of the ride.

I reckon about 2 pub stops on the way, and eat somewhere when we get there (like Vesuvio's Italian place) , but if anyone has any better ideas let us know!

I took photos of the OS map becuase google maps and multimap etc don't show cycle paths!

Head out of Hythe in the Direction of Beaulieu Town roads

Promenade – St John’s street – South Street – Langdown Lawn – Beaulieu Rd

Straight over roundabout with A326 on to B3054 to Beaulieu and out the other side

Solent Way – Beaulieu Rd - Palace La. - High St - Hatchet Lane (highlighted as a recreational route on the OS map! )

Fork with B3055 - straight onto B3055 then immediately right on to Furzey Lane.

Through village bearing left at the end of houses on left side to find track

Bear left onto off road cycle track

Follow track into forest. continue straight, don't turn off to left. Get to a path leading off to right after 1.5 miles.

straight on then sharply left at path t- junction (not a cycle track going right)

6 Turn right at t-junction go over railway
over bridge up to path on left just after railway crossing

Left on to another cycle track to Brockenhurst.
Follow more or less same direction until Brock.

8 Through Brockenhurst to Lymington Junction following B3055
Balmer Lawn Road - Lyndhurst Road - Grigg Lane - Sway Road - then bear right off under 2 railway bridges and join cycle way

9 Cycle way becomes disused railway line
Straight until reaching 3 way road jct. - cycle path takes you off to the left to join road

10 Left onto B-road 1/4 mile then right onto cycle path
Follow path along then bear right at t-junction with larger track until A35

11 Turn left onto A35
Follow for 2 miles to right turning right at Forest Lodge called Lyndhurst Rd

12 Stay on Lyndhurst Road for ages.
It turns into Hawthorn Road after 2 miles. Cycle through 'Burton'.

13 Turn left onto B3347
Stay on for 0.5 miles and then go right at big roundabout onto A35

14 Turn left onto B3059
Then go over another roundabout and keep going for 1 mile

Keep going until the sea!
(then make sure you stop or you will get wet haha ;-)

16 Turn right and cycle along the coast line until Bournemouth!
Stop when we reach Vesuvio Italian restaurant on your right.

Stop for a well deserved pizza!
